Always be teachable; always be open too the learning process; to be coachable.
    4. Where do you think you would experience challenges in the process?
With the inquiry how that will look for myself in the inquiry to find the clients needs for their results. The experience of asking the question for the answers.
    5. Why would you as a coach need a coaching model?
As a tool for reflecting and accountability.
    6. Which coaching principle do you want to focus working on till the next module?
    Collaborative Dialogue
    7. How would you go about having ego-less interactions in the coaching process?
Trusting myself, believing in my values, knowing and understanding the client have their values and perspectives and allowing that to be my focus. Seek to understand first.

  2. Good job Maryanne,
I think you show great promise as a coach and I believe that you are open to growing and learning which are essential to developing into a masterful coach.

As per your answer to question #7, seeking to understand the client’s needs will definitely help you to realize being there soley for the client in the process.

  3. 1. How did your coach training experience today change you?
I gained perspective both personally and professionally on the responsibilities of a coach and coachee. As humans we tend to view things from our own perspective, as a coach we need to be neutral, not inflicting our goals, values and morals, on an individual. We also need understand what may be right for one may not always be best for another. It is the role of the coach to help the individual set goals, guide and hold the individual accountable for reaching those goals.

    2. How will your coaching experiences in future be different?
My next coaching session will start with an explanation of what the coaching process or experience will involve and what my role as a coach will be.

    3. What are some things you believe coaches should do to further develop skills?
I believe that the term “subject matter expert” is very relative. No individual will remain a subject matter expert without continuous study and development. Coaches will always grow with each coaching experience, each paper/book read, all community experiences, personal life lessons and each course attended.

    4. Where do you think you would experience challenges in the process?
My challenge in the coaching process is internalizing, feeling personally liable and responsible for the individuals success.

    5. Why would you as a coach need a coaching model?
A coaching model will provide structure to the coaching process. Without structure and a strong foundation to understand goals, outcomes, milestones, steps to reaching goals, removing obstacles….the process may endup looking like a dog chasing its tail, knowing what the goal is but never being able to reach it.

    6. Which coaching principle do you want to focus working on till the next module?
I will be focusing on the feedback and questioning portion of coaching. I will try to be more curious and provide feedback rather than telling, asking powerful questions to have the individual find thier own solutions.

    7. How would you go about having ego-less interactions in the coaching process?
I typically will not push my views on another person nor do I judge the person or the situation they are in. As indicated in my answer to question 1, coaching is not about me, it is about helping another person set and reach a goal or goals. I will ask non threatening questions, seek to understand their overall view of the past, present and future, putting my self in the individual’s shoes and helping them identify goals, which will allow me to create a safe, productive, ego-less environment.

    • Great job Barbara,

As you have well observed, coaching is indeed about growing and stretching and learning not just about the client but about ourselves as coaches and our ability to give so much more than we had imagined.

  4. How did your coach training experience today change you?
This session really helped me understand the value of coaching and setting up the clear expectations of my role as a coach. Far too often we end up “ telling” rather then guiding and coaching because that comes natural to us. As a coach we are asking and confirming and getting the coached person to talk out the plan of action and where they feel they need to change and the steps to take them there. “For me it is not telling but now coaching and guiding and assisting them with the plan of action with realistic timelines”

How will your coaching experiences in future be different?
My coaching experiences will change with me being able to really place the responsibility on the coached person by talking them through the changes and feelings they are having. For example asking the questions of: “how did that make you feel”, “what do you think would change that”, “what part have you played”, “how do you think you can make a change in the outcome”? Really start working on the plan of action. Taking the plan and breaking it down with them so they can identify challenges that they may come across. Ensure that they take baby steps in those goals or plans of action so that they can succeed. Then celebrating the successes that they have had and getting them to take responsibility to work on the next steps of their plan. Keeping it real to what they can handle and timelines for them to adjust to this new way, talking through the experiences and challenges.

What are some things you believe coaches should do to further develop skills?
I do believe that a coach should always have checks and balances in place and education with continual experiences and continual education will assist me in keeping true to the coaching and styles used. As well always understanding my style and how it may effect the others being coached.

Where do you think you would experience challenges in the process?
My challenge will be not to tell. To take that step back and ask them what they think they should do. Since the class I have been practicing this and we would call these “coachable moments” and I have found myself asking “what do you think you should do?”, “ have you thought about this..”. These steps have helped me really step back and allow them to answer and they do have the answers.

Why would you as a coach need a coaching model?
As a coach we all need a coaching model to stay true to each and every event of coachable moments. It will keep us grounded as coaches and keep us focussed on the task at hand of guiding people in the direction they plan out and succeed as well as achieve.

Which coaching principle do you want to focus working on till the next module?
I think that the principle that I will focus on the most is thinking partnership and journey and finding the conscious alignment. These are areas that I deal with on a daily basis and really enhancing this process to align both the person being coached as well as balancing for myself to listen and assist in developing the action plan.

How would you go about having ego-less interactions in the coaching process?
Coaching is not about I it is about coaching and guiding the individual to set a path for their future and really encouraging them to stay on that path. Setting clear goals and expectations and taking ownership. Keeping an ego-less interaction we should keep to the coaching model, develop the core – coaching skills, learn our own and others coaching styles, continually do a self inventory, build trust and align goals. Reinforce a welcome to coaching, test our listening skills by repeating what we have heard, be respectful, ask powerful questions, and always provide forward moving feedback. Acknowledge your coachee and assist in documenting goals and ask what plan of action will they take, then empower them to do so. Have them explain what they will take away from this session, and how they plan to implement some of the changes they have planned to make. It is really being able to remain focussed on the coaching model.

  5. 1. How did your coach training experience today change you? It moved my ego out of the way. It showed me the relationship of coach to coachee and vice-versa. It described the process of coaching.

    2. How will your coaching experiences in future be different? In the future I will be learning to coach. I will employ what I have learned previously.

    3. What are some things you believe coaches should do to further develop skills? To further deveop skills coaches should practice coaching frequently. They should also read from experienced coaches. They should remember to stay on the shorter side of questions and not try to instruct the coachee.

    4. Where do you think you would experience challenges in the process? Challenges may arise in the process if the coachee sets up a block or wants you to change their whole life instead of dealing with problems step by step.

    5. Why would you as a coach need a coaching model? Actually a coach needs to develop his or her own model, because we all have different styles and the results may depend on the application of a specific model.

  6. 1. How did your coach training experience today help you?
My coaching training helped me to see that I have the natural ability to continue in this. I have realized that I have learned over the past 5 years that coaching works to help people move forward. Asking questions and pulling out the person’s vision of what he/she desires and helping them figure out how to make this reality is what I want to do more than ever at this time. I will continue to learn more as I continue coaching clients in their endeavors to succeed. It helped me realize I have my own style of coaching and this will develop even more as I continue. But I do want to learn to add some more “definition to the process.”

    2. How will your coaching experience in the future be different?
My coaching experience in the future will become more structured. My sessions will help to clarify and set accountability for the client. I will become more “curious” as I ask lots of questions. I will gently guide the client to specific clear goals and baby steps.

    3. What are some things you think coaches should do to further develop their skills?
As a coach. I will continue to “evaluate” myself and the outcomes of my coaching. I will continue to learn from the experiences. I will also evaluate by asking clients for their positive and negative feedback on the sessions.

    4. Where do you think you will experience challenge in the process?
Continuing to remain neutral while keeping my beliefs from coming to the surface may be something I will continue to work on. I will also be working to find the right questions to get the client bringing stuff to the surface during our sessions. I don’t always express curiosity and I will need to be more creative with the questions I ask.

    5. Why would you as a coach need a coaching model?
I will need a model to set specific goals and direction. Rather than just end up “chatting for a while”
I will be defining my own model as I go, using the guide given. I would also like to see a variety of other modules from this course to help my create my own.

  7. Great that you have learned so much one thing to keep in mind is to allow the coachee to have a voice, play an active role in committing to making themselves better. The process outlined in the class will assist you in staying neutral. We all have our own beliefs and values and entering a coaching session we need to leave that at the door and know that we are not here to pass judgement or place our own vision onto others, we are here to walk them through a plan that they contribute to and take ownership for. There will be people that just don’t want to be there and are forced to be there so really digging in by asking powerful questions, and how this made them feel, what they would have like to change and building that trust that they can talk to you and be empowered by their own decisions is important. Great learning session and really makes you feel like there is a coachable moment in everything we do.

  8. Question 1)
It helped me to understand the role of a coach and the benefits of coaching. It confirmed for me that I really do like coaching and that I would like to learn more about coaching and how to become a great coach.
    Question 2)
In the future I will listen more and ask more thought provoking questions rather than giving advice and trying to solve the coachee’s issues. | will seek to understand and empathize with the coachee.
    Question 3)
First I believe that a coach needs to learn their coaching style. In a way it is similar to knowing your personality type. Once you have this information it is easier to move ahead and create your coaching model which is the foundation of the coaching process. Coaches should learn from other coaches, be coached themselves and continue to learn from their coaching experiences. Coaches should also do self evaluations regularly to determine whether they are on track with their own goals and coaching model. We should practice coaching whenever we have a chance. It is always beneficial to read and take courses to learn and grow.
    Question 4)
The challenges for me will be in letting the coachee find their own solutions instead of sharing my own experiences of what has worked for me. It may also be a little difficult to accept a coachee not doing what needs to be done to improve their life. I am very passionate about learning and growing and making positive changes so I will have to be careful not to get annoyed with people who don’t share my enthusiasm for change. I will really have to focus on being inquisitive and asking creative questions to evoke reflection in the coachee.
    Question 5)
A coaching model will provide structure to coaching. It is a foundation which will help a coach to determine what is important and what they want to focus on in the coaching process. It will also help to keep the coach on track with their goals, values and coaching style.
    Question 6)
I really want to focus on listening and asking questions which will help the coachee to determine what they want and how to work towards fulfilling getting there.
    Question 7)
I will work towards this by not pushing my own views on my clients. I will seek to understand and empathize with their challenges.I will ensure that they take small steps in their goals and plans so they can succeed and change gradually but continually towards reaching their goals.
