Coaching to Improve Emotional Wellness

Coaching is one of the fastest growing approaches being used to help improve and maintain emotional wellness. There are a number of reasons for the explosive use of coaching. I would like to investigate just one on those here – the art of changing perspectives by investigating the producing thoughts. The coaching process allows for the individual to do a very in-depth self assessment that can shed light on growth opportunities and wellness in several areas of life. This allows for the coachee to take actions steps to expand their lives and their thinking to a whole new level that is not always possible in other processes. In addition, coaching is a very dynamic process that teaches the coachee how to think differently about their thoughts and question their own thinking and resulting beliefs, allowing them to shift their perspectives. This technique when learnt is very easily applied, therefore allowing the client (coachee) to become more self-aware and self-correcting.

This process helps the coachee to become better able to reduce stressful thoughts and prepare them to be more skeptical of their thoughts and more scrutinizing of their beliefs. This does not mean that the coachee will no longer have stressful thoughts; rather it means that the coachee becomes better equipped to examine these stressful thoughts and discern the truth, enabling them to change their perspectives to one that is less stressful. This process helps clients to better manage their emotional wellness, their health, wellbeing and longevity.

If you haven’t explored coaching as an outlet to improving your emotional wellness, then it’s time you do so. As rate of depression and other mental health diseases increase in our society, there is no time like now to invest in your own emotional wellness. Don’t forget that though coaching has benefits for those who have mental health diseases, coaching works best when you are functional and well, thereby allowing you to reap greater benefits from the process.

I would love to hear what other methods you are using to manage your emotional wellness.

What is Emotional Wellness?

Emotional wellness encompasses how one feels, thinks and copes with life reality. Emotional wellness is closely linked to one’s spiritual and social wellness, as well as all the other dimensions of his or her life system. For instance, emotional wellness can be affected by one’s occupational reality. It can also be a factor in one’s emotional wellness, environmental, financial, and physical wellness. Since we are a system of interrelated parts, when one dimension is affected, this causes a rippling effect in all the other dimensions. Attaining emotional wellness is an ongoing process of managing your wellness in all of life dimensions.

How is it that some people can do reckless and irresponsible things and still get away with it? How is that some people can undergo so much stress and yet maintain their emotional wellness, while others seem to be impacted by much less? Are there things that affect our emotional wellness? Yes we are all made up differently, so it is important that we each become familiar with our own system and the circumstances that impact on our lives. Too much stress is one of the key factors that destroy our emotional wellness. If there is something in your life or relationship that is causing you undue stress then it is time that you think about reducing your stress level. Some of the foods we eat can also cause high stress on our bodies. Too much sugar, fat, caffeine, hot spices, and salt can put our system on high stress to digest and flush out the excess.

Impact of Emotional Wellness

Those who are able to maintain their emotional wellness experience a great life. They are better able to manage their emotions, to have fewer outbursts of anger. They have more control of how they feel and are better able to pick themselves up when they are down. It is very important that we do everything we can to increase the impact of emotional wellness in their lives. Those who achieve emotional wellness can use their anger to diffuse situations or to laugh at themselves. One of the greatest impacts of emotional wellness is that it enables us to live longer healthier and happier lives. We are better able to express our emotions and we can live life more in a meaningful way.

Improving Emotional Wellness

Studies have shown that exercise and diet can have a very positive impact on our emotional wellness. They show that if we eat well, exercise and get adequate rest, we build a great foundation for our emotional wellness. Emotional wellness is a feeling of fulfillment and balance that brings with it most of the elements outlined at the core of the Interpersonal Wellness System model. We know that life style practices have a tremendous impact on our emotional wellness. Building and maintaining great connections and relationships at work, at home and with friends is an excellent way to help one maintain their emotional wellness. If you believe that you should improve your emotional wellness then take some time to complete your Interpersonal Wellness Quotient (IWQ) on our website to adequately assess what you need to do to improve your emotional wellness.

Interpersonal Wellness and the Professional Woman Challenge!

Are you a professional woman looking for a way to excel in your career, improve your education, attain a professional designation, increase your credibility or grow your business and improve your market share?  Do you at times feel that it is not possible to do this because of the challenges and road blocks that come your way?

Managing a successful career or running a business can be a very challenging job.  You have to think of everyone else’s needs before you can think of your own, not to mention marketing and competition.  The constant pressures and demands on your time and your personal resources can at times leave you feeling fearful, battered and overwhelmed.  This can of course become a real challenge to your interpersonal wellness, which is how you interact and respond to challenging work or life relationships.

As professional women, you are under a microscope and your actions are being scrutinized and interpreted in a manner that is less than favorable.  The added pressure of this creates unnecessary stress and detracts from personal wellness.

This is why many professional women take time to retain a coach on either a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.  Coaching is a great way for professional women to find a safe nurturing place to deal with issues such as:

  • Limiting beliefs
  • Improving relationships
  • Saying no to fear
  • Discovering your potential

A motivating and inspiring coaching relationship is essential to help a professional woman reduce stress, improve her wellness, attain her goals and strive to improve her interpersonal wellness.

If you are a professional women who is seeking a way to face life transition, or other work of life challenges that are affecting the peace and joy you need in your business or work relationships, please call our check out our list of mid-afternoon learning series or our list of spring group coaching sessions on the event page of our website.

I look forward to hearing about the strategies you are using to manage your own interpersonal wellness.  Share your tips with our readers below.
