Living a Great Life with Severe Allergies!

Can you believe that January is over? It feels like I woke up and January was gone. I spent most of January learning how severe my Soy allergy was and the remainder making certain that I wasn’t loosing my mind. Well I am here to say that I didn’t loose my mind but I almost did commit myself. I visited the emergency twice, only to learn that I am, as my grandfather would say “as healthy as a horse”. That is of course good news but when you are hurting like I did, you almost want the Dr’s to manufacture a name for what you are feeling. Well they could not find a name to what I was feeling, so naturally I was very suspicious of those folks at the hospital and even of the cardiologist who insisted that I did not need an Echo because he was certain from my stress test that I did not have enlargement of heart. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and investigated what was going on in my empire!

As it turned out, my ‘not so bad’ allergy to soy had taken a turn for the worst! I imbibed in Edame or Edamame to quote Wikepedia. Now who the hell comes up with that word? Why can’t it be called soy beans as it really should? Well this thing is supposed to be good for you but not if you have a soy allergy that’s just waiting to pounce. I as I mentioned imbibed in Edame, slyly labeled as peas in a veggie platter on Saturday night Jan 2nd. The next morning I woke up feeling stiffness in my neck and pain in my shoulder muscles, throbbing pain in my neck that later transferred to my chest and back with tingling in my arm and fingers all on my left side. Well I must also say that I did continue to eat edame all week thinking it was peas. By the Tuesday I was at emergency and then again the following week.

What I also came to learn in the weeks that followed was that there was soybean oil in my hand lotion, shower gel, salad dressing, almond milk, garlic supplements, laundry soap and I swear it felt like every where I looked I found soy. So if you have allergies like I do, or anything else holding you back from being your best self – Take your life back! In addition to soy I am also allergic to gluten and eggs but I will tell you that story another time. Also check your make up, lip stick and chap stick as they too may be hiding soy or whatever you may be allergic too.

If you have a story send us a note and let me know how you are handling it.

I intend to spend February happy and healthy and knowing that I am in control of my life. It is hard when you feel not in control of your life so I want to urge you to take a look at your life now and examine to see what is holding you back from your full potential? It may not be allergies sneaking up on you like I have but it could be fear, lack of consideration for others or something else. Remember, if you are only functioning at a 5 you cannot bring a 10 to your relationships or your career. If you want to take your life back call the Centre to have a Personal Wellness Audit and this will reveal your IWQ – which is how much you can really contribute to your relationships.
